Oxbridge Mentoring Toolkit
At Insight, our team has asked itself, “What are the tools for Oxbridge mentoring?”. By that, we mean is it possible to distill 16 years of experience in delivering bespoke tutoring, mentoring programmes and university admissions preparation, into a form that can be shared and applied directly via schools no matter their location, size or status? With our experience of working with volunteers and schools, we set out to build the “Toolkit” with two distinct objectives in mind:
- To train teachers to use the Oxbridge Mentoring Toolkit (OMT) to enhance or start their own in-house mentoring programmes for the benefit of their most-able pupils or Year 12 cohort in general and become part of an academic mentoring movement nationwide.
- Encapsulate our core pedagogies that focus not exclusively on getting students into Oxbridge, but greatly enhance their outlook toward learning and longer-term career prospects.
WHY CREATE THE TOOLKIT?
No matter their aspirations for university, we believe every student should be equipped with the ability to think on their feet: critically, creatively and decisively. Students should develop an introspective mind on their own motivations, that they may enact their decision-making processes to prospective courses and universities with pragmatism as well as determination. Students should learn the complex interlinkages between subject areas and their various applications to abstract and real-world settings, that they may be better prepared to consider what is needed for their careers.
These skills cannot simply be examined by essay-writing or multiple-choice questions. For 16 years, Insight has worked on producing the future generation of independent thinkers and critical minds. The students of tomorrow will inherit a troubled, divisive and endangered world. Our pedagogies - our toolkit - is the way in which they can be moulded into tenacious, empathetic and ambitious thinkers that can thrive and improve the lives of others.
OUR COLLABORATORS
At Insight, we have a proven track record of equipping students with the skills to access and succeed at world-class universities. Insight Academy is working with Insight Education and social mobility charity Insight Outreach, with a goal to match in one year what top UK schools achieve in seven for their brightest students. The Oxbridge Mentoring syllabus has achieved an interview success rate of 47-53%. We firmly believe in providing every student with the opportunity to explore super-curricular activities to find a course matching their interests and skillset. We are proud to share our Oxbridge Mentoring Toolkit to enhance teaching and learning in schools.
